CS:S - Promod Halted

Image

Unfortunately, as many CSS fans may have noticed, work on CS ProMod seems to have halted.
CS ProMod was originally looking to combine the best of CS 1.5, CS 1.6 and CS Source. The idea was simple: The gun damage and spray from 1.5, Physics from 1.6 and the graphics from Source. This combination sounded fantastic, and so work on the mod began.

Late last year, mainly due to an impatient public, CS ProMod Beta 1.0 was released, and the reviews around the gaming scene were damning. There were only 5 guns available, and it was among the glitchiest of mods ever prepared for public release. People very quickly began to fall away from the fan club.
Quicker than lighting, 1.01 and 1.02 were released, in a desperate bid to hold a community together. Unfortunately, this didn't help.
Early this year, 1.03 was released, but less than half of people who downloaded the original mod downloaded the newest version. For the ProMod team, this was some serious bad news.

The last news update on their site was on April the 28th, and no more news has swung by anywhere, which, rather unfortunately, suggests that what once looked like a top notch idea has been thrown into the wastebin.

So, unfortunately, this looks like one to cross off the list for the CS fans. A shame really, because this looked like one of the best ideas to come across the source engine.

FURY is dead

Image

Another mmo bites the dust as Aussie developer Auran studios powers down website and servers of mini PVP centric mmo FURY after failing to find a sustainable financial model to support ongoing running costs.
This coming from a game initially debuting as the CS of MMO's with a full monthly fee system collapsing due to poor launch performance and no real RPG element to a state of free play and optional subscription still. Fury is an interesting saga simply because it shows the worst side of MMO's with the complete implosion of a company from the top down with the failure to make early financial gain.

The Fury is officially silenced.

Savage 2 - $10

Image

Savage 2 $10 (US) this weekend through STEAM

At that price you'd be nuts not at least give it serious looking into one of the most successful multi player fps/rts/mmo hybrids around. The original Savage was the backbone of many a LAN and the sequel brings a hefty amount of spit and polish to a very proud legacy.

In Savage 2 two teams, the Humans and Beasts wage war culminating in the destruction of the enemy town centre. The elected Commander is in charge of co-ordinating the realm time battle of the shifting fronts and adding their special talents where required. Buildings are built as and where needed by the players. Combat escaltes from bows and arrows, blades and axes to giant siege weapons of destruction and if that doesn't float your boat, well you can always try bringing up some of the shiny demonic Hellborne units from weeping voids of the earths crust.

In terms of gameplay Savage 2 focuses heavily on Team Based 3D melee combat fighting persistant battles to earn experience and gold to tech up into bigger and more destructive forms to achieve total victory.

The game features a robust persistant stat/skill/replay features on a framework of reasonable system requirements ensuring everyone this side of broadband should find something to interest them.

At $10 Savage 2 is an indie product not to be missed
